Bus transportation is available within the Burlington School District. Families outside of the Burlington school district can contract for bus service provided by Catholic Central High School for a fee.
  1. Wait a safe distance away for the bus until the bus comes to a complete stop.
  2. Be quiet and friendly with others waiting at the bus stop.
  3. Get on the bus quietly, go directly to a seat, and talk quietly with others while riding and remain seated.
  4. Respect the bus and the property of others while riding.
  5. Be courteous and respectful to the driver and all passengers.
  6. Keep all objects and all parts of the body inside the bus.
  7. Only carry on the bus items that are needed for school.
  8. Obey the bus driver.
  9. Be helpful to others, especially smaller children.
  10. Do your best to obey all the bus riding rules.
Bus riding is a privilege that can be lost through serious or repeated failure to follow the rules. Penalties can include:
  • conference with the principal
  • conference with the principal and notification to the parents
  • loss or riding privileges for three days or more
  • or permanent loss of riding privileges
In bad weather, bus runs will be cancelled by the superintendent. Students and parents should listen to any one of the following radio or TV stations after 6:00 a.m. for information:
  • WTMJ (620 AM)
  • WLKG (96.1 FM)
  • Channel 4, 6, 12 or 58.
If a student wishes to ride a different bus from the regularly assigned one, they must have a signed note from the office that they give to the driver. If a non-bused student wishes to ride a bus, the cost is 50¢.(Students from SMS that ride the Catholic Central H.S. bus are advised that their guest(s) on the bus are charged $1.50 each way.) Questions about busing problems should be directed to Peter Smet at the district office. 763-0210.
